Dr Andy Turner: PhD
Profile:
Andy is a Senior Research Fellow at the Applied Research Centre of Health and Lifestyle Interventions, based at Coventry University. He has been evaluating lay-led, patient and carer programmes for over 10 years in the UK. He is an accredited Expert Patients Programme tutor and assessor. He is also trained in motivational interviewing and psychological coaching and is a personal trainer. He has written 30 papers in the field of lay-led, self-management.
He has recently developed and delivered Coventry University's Help to Overcome Problems Effectively (HOPE) programme for people with mental health problems, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS. The HOPE is a health coaching and support programme, which encourages positive psychological and behavioural change by building on participants' existing strengths and resiliencies, rather than focusing exclusively on skills deficits. HOPE also deliberately exploits Irvin Yalom's group curative factors such as instillation of hope, universality and imitative learning.

Developing, delivering and evaluating self-management and health behaviour coaching programmes including workplace, community and internet based programmes for people living with a range of long term heath conditions and their carers including, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, heart disease and depression.
