Liz Johnson:
Profile:
Background in Education. Having a long term health condition myself, I first came into self-management via the Voluntary sector, Arthritis Care, in 1994. I was trained by Kate Lorig, of Stanford University, who developed the self-management course for people living with arthritis. She further developed the chronic disease self-management course, CDSMC, which is for anyone living with any long term health condition.
I worked for Arthritis Care delivering, assessing and training people to deliver the Challenging Arthritis course. In 2003 I began working for the Expert patients Programme, EPP, in all of the above disciplines as I was able to transfer my self-management skills to working with people having varied long term health conditions. In my role as an Assessor Trainer I have worked with and supported students who chose to train as assessors through Distance Learning in partnership with Lampeter University.
Since 2008 I have worked as a freelance consultant within the field of lay led self-management and working within the quality assurance framework, Ss2Q, for providers of Stanford University programmes. I am totally committed to the ethos of self-management.
